Rescue and rehoming

Taking on a a rescue dog

If you've rescued or rehomed a dog, the first thing to say is, thank you! I work with these dogs all week and my favourite part is following their journeys as they adapt to their 'furever' homes. But, it's not always a smooth process. Your new dog may be used to things being very different. You might expect things from them that they are not ready for.  This can lead to problems.

If you're struggling with a rescue, I can help you make the process of settling in and building your relationship easier. Whatever the problem is, let's talk about it.  Here's a short list of some of the most common issues I help adopters and their rescue dogs with:

  • Dog reactivity (barking and lunging at other dogs)
  • People reactivity (growling, barking and lunging at people)
  • Handling issues (such as not nail clipping)
  • Anxiety
  • Toilet training and house soiling
  • Fear
  • Aggression towards people and other animals including dogs
  • Problems with travelling in a vehicle
  • Frustration including grabbing at the lead
  • Basic training including walking nicely on the lead

I have seen and worked with all of these issues in rescue dogs. Our consultation will give you the time to figure out what you want from your rescue dog and what they want from you.  We'll put together a plan to help you both move forward and you'll be support every step of the way through follow up consultations and email or Whats App support in between our sessions.  Together, we'll create and use step by step videos of training and written training plans to help you stay on track as you work towards your goals.
